Max open size is the largest single position your funded account may hold. It rises on each approved payout, along the same milestone ladder as your payout cap, until it reaches a terminal maximum.

It never rises above the 5% market-volume cap, which is a separate limit and applies at every milestone.

The Ladder by Account Size

Milestone$25k$50k$100k
Funded start$500$1,000$1,500
1st approved payout$750$1,500$2,000
2nd approved payout$1,000$2,000$2,500
3rd approved payout$1,250$2,500$3,000
4th and later$1,500 max$2,500 max$3,500 max

Note the shape of each column. The $50k account reaches its terminal $2,500 at the third approved payout and stays there. The $25k and $100k accounts take one more step, to $1,500 and $3,500 respectively, at the fourth and later payouts.

The payout caps that move in step with these figures are in Scaling Tables by Account Size.

What Triggers the Step

Only an approved payout. A payout request that is still in review does not raise your limit, and a denied payout does not either.

The increase applies from the moment of approval. Positions you already hold are not resized by it — the new ceiling governs what you open next.

The 5% Cap Is the Other Half of the Answer

No position may exceed 5% of that market's trailing 24-hour volume. Your allowed position size is the lower of your max open size and that 5% figure.

Worked example, on a $100k account that has reached the third approved payout ($3,000 max open size):

Market trailing 24h volume5% of volumeYour max open sizeAllowed position
$200,000$10,000$3,000$3,000
$60,000$3,000$3,000$3,000
$25,000$1,250$3,000$1,250

Scaling up your max open size does not raise the 5% cap. On thinner markets the volume cap will keep binding no matter which milestone you have reached, which is why traders on the larger accounts feel the cap more often than traders at the funded start.

Orders that exceed the allowed size are blocked by the trading system rather than filled and penalised afterwards. Thin, unavailable or temporarily restricted markets may not be tradeable at all — see Market Availability and Thin Markets and Temporary Market Restrictions.

Max Open Size Is a Ceiling, Not a Target

Reaching a new milestone does not mean you should trade at the new limit. Two constraints make oversizing expensive on a funded account.

  • There is no daily loss limit, but there is an end-of-day trailing drawdown floor. A single position at the ceiling can move that floor from comfortable to close in one session.
  • The 40% payout-cycle consistency rule caps any one day at 40% of the cycle's profit. A very large winning day can make an otherwise complete cycle unpayable until the rest of the cycle catches up. See Funded 40% Payout-Cycle Consistency.

Limits Do Not Step Back Down

An unprofitable cycle does not reduce your max open size. Once a milestone is reached it is held for the life of that funded account.

A breach ends the account and the milestone together. Funded resets are not available at launch, so a new funded account begins again at the funded start row. Scaling is per account and does not transfer between accounts you hold.

Checking Your Current Limit

  1. Open the funded account in your dashboard.
  2. Read the current max open size shown on the account. That figure is the account-level ceiling.
  3. Before sizing a position, check the market's own limit — the allowed size is the lower of the two.
  4. If the two disagree with the table above for your milestone, contact support rather than trading against an unexpected number.
