Maximum loss is the total drawdown an FPT Scale evaluation account is allowed. It is $1,000 on the $25k account, $2,000 on the $50k and $3,000 on the $100k.

It is enforced as a loss floor — a balance level the account must not reach. Reach it and the evaluation on that account ends immediately. There is no warning stage, no partial penalty and no second chance on the same account.

Maximum Loss by Account Size

AccountStarting balanceMaximum lossStarting loss floorMax loss as % of account
$25k Scale$25,000$1,000$24,0004%
$50k Scale$50,000$2,000$48,0004%
$100k Scale$100,000$3,000$97,0003%

Notice the relationship to the profit target. On the $50k account you are given $2,000 of room to make $3,000. The evaluation is a risk-management test as much as a directional one.

The Floor Moves Up, Never Down

The loss floor is not fixed at the starting level. It trails upward as the account records new highest end-of-day balances, and it stops trailing once it reaches the account's starting balance plus $100 — $25,100, $50,100 and $100,100.

That is the whole of the drawdown mechanism, and it is explained day by day, with a full worked table, in EOD Trailing Drawdown. Two consequences are worth stating here:

  • Early profit tightens the floor. Make $600 on the $50k account and close the day there, and your floor moves from $48,000 to $48,600. Your remaining room is still $2,000, but it is now measured from a higher balance.
  • Once the floor locks, it never tightens again. From that point you have a fixed floor and unlimited upside room.

Open Positions Count

Maximum loss applies to the account's value including open simulated positions — not only to closed results. A position sitting at a large unrealised loss draws the account down in real time.

This matters in prediction markets, where a contract can move sharply on a single headline and where some markets are thin. A position that you intend to hold to resolution can still breach the account before resolution arrives.

Worked Example — $100k Scale

A trader on the $100k account has a starting floor of $97,000.

  1. Day 1 closes at $100,900. New highest end-of-day balance, so the floor trails to $97,900.
  2. Day 2 the trader opens a position that moves against them. Account value including the open position falls to $98,400. No breach — the floor is $97,900.
  3. The position keeps moving. Account value including the open position touches $97,900. The floor is reached and the evaluation ends there, even though the position was never closed and even though the market later resolved in the trader's favour.

The lesson is the ordinary one: the floor is a level, not an intention. Size positions so that a plausible adverse move does not put account value on the floor.

There Is No Daily Loss Limit

FPT Scale has no daily loss limit at any account size. A single bad day does not breach an account by itself; only the maximum-loss floor does. The reasoning is in Why There Is No Daily Loss Limit.

The practical effect is that your entire loss budget is available whenever you want it. That is more freedom and more responsibility at once: nothing stops you from spending the whole $2,000 of a $50k account in an afternoon.

What a Breach Means

When the floor is reached:

  1. The evaluation on that account ends and the account moves to a breached status.
  2. The account can no longer be traded. Open simulated positions are closed by the system.
  3. The purchase is not refundable. A discretionary refund is not available after a rule violation, and is in any event only ever considered before any simulated trade has been placed. See Refunds.
  4. You may restart by purchasing a reset for that account size. Reset fees are listed in Pricing and Reset Fees and in Reset Fees.
  5. A breached account still counts against nothing going forward — but note that active accounts are capped at five per person, and the rules for that are in Account Limits and Allocation Caps.

The full status list is in Account Status Definitions.

Maximum Loss in the Funded Stage

Funded accounts carry their own rules, including how a funded account is breached. Do not assume the evaluation numbers carry across unchanged — read Breaches During the Funded Stage and Funded Account Rules.
